• Rita Knoetze

Rita was born in the small town of Fochville in the Northwest Province of South Africa. The innocence of her childhood, playing and growing up in the countryside, manifested in her passion for artistic purity and honesty. As a qualified Draughtswoman on the gold mines, she was the first lady to be appointed as Head of the Draughting Department at a gold mine in South Africa. Back in the eighties, this was a significant turning point for women in the industry, as it was previously a "man's domain". Her initial paintings were all done in oil and mirrored her zeal for perfection, influenced by her draughting background. Those realistic works were well received and popular, but she always had the desire to discover her own unique creative voice. As a self-taught artist with no formal art education, she started embracing her own style and from 2010 continued with impressionistic and abstract art. The freedom of this art form awakened her own spiritual and artistic voice. She paint because she NEEDED to express this PASSION within herself! There is simply too much "art" and "zest" within her  that she wants to share with the world! She is currently living in Sedgefield, South Africa, where she is the resident artist for the Scarab Art and Craft Village. Over and above her passion for her personal art, she also does wildlife art for a company that prints the art on handmade 'elephant dung paper,' for local and worldwide distribution to game reserves and curio shops. Her art is found abundantly in homes throughout South Africa, as well as overseas in the USA, UK, Germany, Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand.Exhibitions in RSA:SOLO: Westonaria Library, Gauteng, Technical College in Johannesburg, Gauteng, Scarab Art and Craft Village, Sedgefield, Western Cape,GROUP: Olga Hoffman Art School, Gauteng, Baxter Theatre, Cape Town, Youngblood Art Gallery, Cape Town, "23 on Marsch" Art Gallery, Mossel Bay, Western Cape, "Art on Queen" Art Gallery, Knysna Western Cape, Art Gallery, Plettenberg Bay, Western Cape, Wilderness Arts Festival, Western Cape, Decorex, Cape Town Homemakers Expo, Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape Pop up Exhibition in V&A Waterfront with international Art Gallery - The Travelling Art Gallery.
